Mares

Sage

Sage ticked a lot of boxes for me.  I like really solid mares, she was old enough that we would be able to lightly start her under saddle not too long after purchasing her, she had done very little previously, had been raised in a herd setting, I liked her colour and of course… she was a ¾ Gypsy Cob mare.

Prior to contacting her previous owner to say I’d like to buy her I watched a small video clip of Sage over and over…  I couldn’t put my finger on it particularly but there was something about her that really appealed to me.  Her registered name is Brightwater Wild Child and I figured with a name like that she would probably have some personality.  When I first met her this calm, sensible young mare was anything but wild – it turns out the name was more to do with her crazy amounts of hair as a yearling.  As she travelled home calmly taking the trip in her stride, and settled into the herd here with no fuss at all I decided she needed a different paddock name.  I wanted a name to reflect her personality a bit more and so she became Sage.

Sage has just started the process of being backed and has all the signs of being a lovely horse under saddle.  She is calm and sensible but at the same time engaged and responsive.  She really has been a lovely addition to our herd.
